Afghanistan: Supporting Returnees in Desperate Need
In response to hundreds of thousands of Afghan returnees – some with identity papers, others without – crossing from Pakistan into Afghanistan, combined with increased displacement within the country, the World Food Programme (WFP) launched a dedicated emergency operation to provide food and cash to affected families. At the Torkham border crossing, WFP together with IOM, WHO, UNICEF, the Afghan Government and NGOs, provide new arrivals with food assistance, cash, medical services and training opportunities.
